Founded by Rochelle Truxal, Pearlesque Box not only focuses on bringing you unique global beauty experiences each month, they are also working tirelessly to spread knowledge about why it is important to make the switch to natural and organic products.  As someone who had been diagnosed with psoriasis, Rochelle had trouble finding products to help the symptoms she was experiencing, and most on the market within the United States contained less than desirable ingredients that were more likely to further aggravate her condition rather than soothe it.  With a lifelong passion for traveling, Rochelle visited many different places, and her eyes were opened to new and ancient natural ingredients used every day around the world.  As a result, Pearlesque Box was created to share her findings with others in search of the best natural products from every corner of the globe.

We were able to speak with Rochelle and learn more about her journey to finding natural products which led to her inspiration for creating Pearlesque Box.  We are also so excited to share with you what is inside the upcoming February box, and we are offering one of you the chance to win one for yourself!  Read on below for our interview with Rochelle and to find out more about the products featured in next month’s box.

The Greenly Guide: As the natural and organic market is becoming more populated with monthly subscription boxes, you have done something different to set yourself apart, which is offering products from a different region of the world each month – how did this idea come to be, and what inspired this unique twist on the monthly beauty box?

Rochelle: Traveling is my passion along with organic skincare. When I started traveling to different countries I discovered that women used their local natural resources for ingredients in their skincare, sometimes dating back to their grandmothers and their handmade rituals. After some research and talking to these women it became evident that there is a vast difference in the way Americans consume and use beauty products than most regions of the world. The major difference being that the largest corporate beauty brands with massive marketing budgets were selling women products that were toxic while promising results that can be obtained using natural ingredients. From this discovery and testing out products from around the globe, it became clear to me that some of the best brands in the world were made on organic farms or deep valleys…. everywhere! This was when I knew that combining skincare and travel had to be done, for the benefit of consumers and brands alike!

The Greenly Guide: For people who may not be familiar with your brand, can you tell us a little bit about what people can expect to find in the Pearlesque Box each month?

Rochelle: Every month we conveniently ship out a curated box full of organic and non-toxic skincare products from around the world… all full size and travel size, only. Each box is a retail value of over $90 and sometimes upwards of $160… all for $39.95/month! It’s an affordable avenue to test out brands from all over the world including Australia, Brazil, Africa, Indonesia, etc.

The Greenly Guide: Can you share with us a little about your personal journey in using natural and organic products and how it led to the creation of your business?

Rochelle: Unbeknownst to me, Pearlesque Box has been a lifetime in the making. At an early age I was diagnosed with Psoriasis where I had to take great measures to treat my condition, including exposure to sunlight, ointments, creams, laser treatments, coal tar (gross), steroid injections…you name it. Since there is no cure for psoriasis, I knew it was a lifelong struggle ahead. It wasn’t too long that I discovered that many skincare products on the market severely affected my skin, causing increased red patches on my body. At that time natural products were not prevalent in the US. I then started creating my own products using natural ingredients such as coconut oil, olive oil, avocado, etc, which helped my psoriasis.

In my 20’s I started traveling to various countries and discovered that those countries have been using natural ingredients for their skin from the beginning of time. The question I had was “Why are natural skincare products not prevalent in the US?” With so many big conglomerate beauty brands that had the majority share in the beauty industry, I wanted to make a change. A change in the industry and also the mindset of the American consumer. That’s when it struck me….”I want to start a subscription box where consumers can discover organic and non-toxic skincare products from around the world!” Combining my passion of skincare and traveling is what I had to do!

The Greenly Guide: What has been the most challenging part of starting and growing Pearlesque Box?

Rochelle: I would say that creating the awareness and education on why switching to organic and non-toxic skincare can be quite difficult. So many girls and women of all ages are being marketed the wrong messages by big beauty brands, which makes it difficult to change the mindset.

The Greenly Guide: With the focus of your box being on skincare and bath and body care from around the world, can you tell us where has been your favorite place you have traveled and why?

Rochelle: Santorini, Greece! It is absolutely exquisite and magical! The cliffside hotels, infinite pools, the way the lights sparkle on the blue ocean in the evenings…. Everything! I dream about this place often and would love to go back soon.

The Greenly Guide: How do you choose the brands or regions that will be featured in Pearlesque Box?

Rochelle: I research a TON! When I discover a brand I then create the relationship with the founder to dive deeper into the brand, ingredients and products. I always test every single product that will be placed in the boxes.

The Greenly Guide: I think it is so interesting to learn about beauty rituals from around the world and how they differ from our own – what is your favorite beauty ritual?

Rochelle: My ritual is pretty rigid as I ensure to never miss a day without taking care of my skin! In the mornings I wash my face, apply toner, moisturizer, SPF and a BB cream with concealer and mascara and I am on my way (I try to go without makeup as much as possible). In the evenings I cleanse my skin and I like to apply a mask, either a mud mask or a glowing mask, with a eye mask. I then apply my night creams, including an eye serum and a nighttime face serum.

The Greenly Guide: Where would we most likely find you on a Saturday evening?

Rochelle: I am really into good food and wine so I try to spend the evening at a new restaurant or wine lounge. If not, you can probably find me researching my next travel destination

The Greenly Guide: What is the best advice you would give someone who is looking to start using organic and non-toxic beauty product?

Rochelle: Do not be discouraged as it can be difficult to find the best brand that works for your skin. This is why I started Pearlesque Box! Also, do not immediately revert to the brand you find at your local store as those brands are typically not the best in the market. Do your research and slowly adapt to the ingredients from around the world.

The Greenly Guide: What can we look forward to from Pearlesque Box in 2017? Can you share with us any exciting plans?

Rochelle: We are really focusing on spreading education and awareness to consumers around the world on organic and non-toxic skincare, as well as the dangers of using toxic products. I also hope to incorporate travel videos of the regions included in the box.

What will you find in the February 2017 Pearlesque Box?

The February 2017 box is featuring the beautiful products of Red Flower.  Red Flower is a New York City based skincare company that sources all of their ingredients from Finland.  They are known for creating botanical beauty with the benefits of aromatherapy that will turn your skincare regime into a welcomed ritual.  Red Flower practices sustainable sourcing and creates their products in micro-batches at a privately owned facility to uphold the highest standards of product freshness and quality.

Illuminating Rose Collagen Renewal Face Serum (full size): Instantly boost circulation and plump skin with a rush of rejuvenating whole rose essential oil concentrate, omega-3, 6 and 9, elegiac acid and potent antioxidant rich berry complex.  This lightweight serum can be applied in the morning, under makeup and in the evening as well.
